Admission and Stay

Admission to the NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic
Our admission process is clearly structured to help children, young people and their families begin treatment with confidence. From the first enquiry through assessment and treatment planning, our team provides guidance, answers questions and prepares each step carefully. This creates a reliable and supportive foundation for the therapeutic work ahead.
Before Admission
Initial Contact and Guidance
The process begins with an initial enquiry. We explain the admission procedure, our treatment programme and the next steps. You can contact us by telephone, email or through our Online Reception.
Referral and Initial Consultation
Admission usually follows a referral from a specialist physician or psychotherapist. If you do not yet have a referral, we can arrange a non-binding consultation to assess whether day-clinic treatment may be suitable for your child.
Clarifying Cost Coverage
We are happy to support you in clarifying reimbursement with your private health insurer or German civil service aid provider (Beihilfe). As coverage depends on the individual policy and prior approval, we recommend confirming all requirements directly with your insurer before treatment begins.
Treatment at the NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic
Initial Assessment
At the start of treatment, we hold a detailed consultation to clarify any remaining questions and ensure that your child feels safe and well supported. The subsequent treatment is then tailored to their individual needs.
Individual Treatment Planning
Based on the initial assessment, we develop an individual treatment plan. It may include individual and group psychotherapy, creative and movement-based therapies, and disorder-specific interventions. Families are actively involved to support progress across everyday life.
Starting Treatment
Once the treatment plan has been agreed, day-clinic treatment begins. Children and young people attend the scheduled therapies during the day and return home in the evenings and at weekends. This allows them to remain connected to their familiar environment and apply new strategies in everyday life.
Regular Review
Progress is reviewed regularly throughout treatment. We adapt the therapeutic approach and intensity to the child’s or young person’s current needs so that support remains purposeful and effective.
Final Consultation
At the end of treatment, we review progress with the child or young person and their parents or carers and agree the next steps. Particular attention is given to transferring helpful strategies into everyday life and supporting continued development.
Individual Follow-up to Sustain Progress
Sustaining Stability
Where appropriate and requested, we can provide individual follow-up after day-clinic treatment. This may include review appointments, additional therapeutic sessions or consultations with parents or carers. The aim is to support the transition back into everyday life, identify difficulties early and consolidate progress.
Frequently Asked Questions
Key information about our child and adolescent day clinic at a glance.
NOVA is a private psychiatric and psychotherapeutic day clinic for children and young people. It provides intensive therapeutic support during the day, while patients spend evenings and weekends at home. This combines a structured clinical programme with continued involvement in family and everyday life.
Our day clinic is intended for privately insured children and young people and those eligible for German civil service aid (Beihilfe), generally aged 8 to 19, who:
• need more support than weekly outpatient therapy can provide
and require a more intensive, structured treatment programme;
• would benefit from continued care after inpatient treatment
and need a gradual return to everyday life;
• can remain safely in their home environment
and benefit from returning home in the evenings and at weekends.
• Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
• Anxiety disorders
• Depressive disorders
• School avoidance
• Eating disorders
• Trauma- and stress-related emotional difficulties
• Psychosomatic conditions
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Day-clinic treatment is not suitable in cases of active substance dependence, acute psychosis, acute suicidality, severe self-injury or severe underweight. Urgent crises require immediate emergency assessment.
Our multidisciplinary programme is tailored to each child or young person. It may include individual and group psychotherapy, disorder-specific interventions, art therapy and movement therapy. Parent and carer work is also included to strengthen support within the family and coordinate the treatment process.
The duration is agreed individually and depends on the clinical needs, the severity of the difficulties and progress during treatment. It can be adjusted as required. A day-clinic stay usually lasts approximately six to twelve weeks.
With consent, we work closely with schools, outpatient therapists and specialist physicians. This coordinated approach helps us consider the important areas of a young person’s life and support lasting progress.
The NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic is eligible for reimbursement under German civil service aid schemes (Beihilfe) and is recognised by the Association of Private Health Insurance as a hospital within the meaning of § 4(4) MB/KK.
Private health insurance and Beihilfe commonly reimburse medically necessary treatment, subject to the terms of the individual policy and prior approval. If you do not yet have a referring physician or supporting clinical report, an initial outpatient consultation at our centre can help clarify the required steps.
Please contact your insurer in advance to confirm the applicable requirements and written approval.
At present, treatment costs at our day clinic are generally covered only by private health insurance and German civil service aid (Beihilfe). We are working towards approval to treat children and young people covered by statutory health insurance. Please contact us to discuss the current options for your individual situation.
