Dear children, young people, parents and carers,
Welcome to the NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic in Frankfurt am Main.
Every child and young person develops in their own way, shaped by physical, emotional and social changes. During this sensitive period, difficulties may arise suddenly or develop over time. Anxiety, depressive symptoms, obsessive-compulsive experiences, family conflict or unexplained physical symptoms can significantly affect wellbeing and development.
Our experienced multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, psychotherapists and specialist therapists works together to strengthen resources, open new perspectives and develop sustainable ways of managing everyday life.
Because we are stronger together.
We look forward to working with children, young people and their families.
Warm regards
The NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic team
Our Strengths
Individual Care
We see every patient as an individual within their personal environment — including family, friends and school — and take account of their interests, wishes and abilities. Across more than 1,200 m², we provide space for individual assessment, therapy and development, with outpatient services and two age-specific day-clinic units.
Respect and Appreciation
We create an open and safe environment in which children, young people and their families can feel welcome. Mutual respect, transparency and empathetic communication form the basis of our work.
Multidisciplinary Expertise
Our multidisciplinary team includes experienced specialist physicians, child and adolescent psychotherapists, an art therapist, a movement therapist, a learning therapist and educational specialists. A therapy dog also supports our work and can make a valuable contribution to treatment.
Building Personal Responsibility
Children and young people are supported in taking an active role in their treatment and in applying and reflecting on what they learn in everyday life.
Professional Networks
Members of our team are affiliated with BKJPP, DPtV, DGKJP and BAG KJPP. These professional memberships reflect our commitment to high clinical standards and the continued development of child and adolescent mental healthcare.
Quality Assurance
We support treatment quality through regular participation in quality circles and specialist conferences. Our work is guided by current national and international clinical guidelines.
Frequently Asked Questions
Key information about our child and adolescent day clinic at a glance.
NOVA is a private psychiatric and psychotherapeutic day clinic for children and young people. It provides intensive therapeutic support during the day, while patients spend evenings and weekends at home. This combines a structured clinical programme with continued involvement in family and everyday life.
Our day clinic is intended for privately insured children and young people and those eligible for German civil service aid (Beihilfe), generally aged 8 to 19, who:
• need more support than weekly outpatient therapy can provide
and require a more intensive, structured treatment programme;
• would benefit from continued care after inpatient treatment
and need a gradual return to everyday life;
• can remain safely in their home environment
and benefit from returning home in the evenings and at weekends.
• Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
• Anxiety disorders
• Depressive disorders
• School avoidance
• Eating disorders
• Trauma- and stress-related emotional difficulties
• Psychosomatic conditions
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Day-clinic treatment is not suitable in cases of active substance dependence, acute psychosis, acute suicidality, severe self-injury or severe underweight. Urgent crises require immediate emergency assessment.
Our multidisciplinary programme is tailored to each child or young person. It may include individual and group psychotherapy, disorder-specific interventions, art therapy and movement therapy. Parent and carer work is also included to strengthen support within the family and coordinate the treatment process.
The duration is agreed individually and depends on clinical needs, the severity of the difficulties and progress during treatment. It can be adjusted as required. A day-clinic stay usually lasts approximately six to twelve weeks.
Children and young people continue their education during day-clinic treatment. Teaching is coordinated with their home school to support continuity and a gradual return.
- Morning lessons
Fixed teaching times are included in the daily schedule. - Individual adjustment
During the initial phase, lessons take place at the day clinic and are adapted to the child’s or young person’s needs. - Return to the regular school
During the final third of treatment, attendance at the regular school may be introduced for individual lessons to support the transition back.
Admission usually follows a referral from a specialist physician or psychotherapist. Families may also contact the day clinic directly so that we can assess whether this form of treatment may be suitable and discuss the next steps. Initial Registration and the Online Reception are available in English.
With consent, we work closely with schools, outpatient therapists and specialist physicians. This coordinated approach helps us consider the important areas of a young person’s life and support lasting progress.
Availability depends on several factors, including clinical need, urgency and current capacity. Demand may be high and places limited. We therefore recommend contacting us early so that the individual situation and likely timing can be discussed.
The NOVA Child and Adolescent Day Clinic is eligible for reimbursement under German civil service aid schemes (Beihilfe) and is recognised by the Association of Private Health Insurance as a hospital within the meaning of § 4(4) MB/KK.
Private health insurance and Beihilfe commonly reimburse medically necessary treatment, subject to the terms of the individual policy and prior approval. If you do not yet have a referring physician or supporting clinical report, an initial outpatient consultation at our centre can help clarify the required steps.
Please contact your insurer in advance to confirm the applicable requirements and written approval.
At present, treatment costs at our day clinic are generally covered only by private health insurance and German civil service aid (Beihilfe). We are working towards approval to treat children and young people covered by statutory health insurance. Please contact us to discuss the current options for your individual situation.
